Idaho

Drone LiDAR and fire mapping across Idaho.

Panhandle timber, Snake River farm ground, sagebrush range, and the fire seasons that come with all three. We fly Idaho in trips from Medford, with the aircraft, sensors, and products on the rest of this site.

What we fly in Idaho

Timber, range, farm ground, and fire

An Idaho stand, allotment, farm, or fire gets the same flight and the same products as the Oregon work on this site. Drone LiDAR for the ground and the trees. Multispectral for what is alive and what is not. Thermal infrared at night for fire. Products come back in the Idaho State Plane zone the ground sits in, or in Idaho Transverse Mercator for state agency work, in the formats the forester, the engineer, or the incident already uses.

  • Night infrared on wildland fire: the heat perimeter, intense and scattered heat, isolated heat sources, and mopup buffers, built to the NIFS schema with the IRWIN identifier
  • Post harvest assessment on timber sale units, every log measured and classed by decay, the product we delivered for the Oregon Department of Forestry
  • Fuels, canopy, and structure exposure data for county wildfire protection plans
  • Bare earth and canopy height under brush and timber, for mine land and habitat work
  • Farm planning maps for irrigated ground: drainage, flow paths, slope, and plan overlays on a current orthomosaic
  • Boise
  • Nampa
  • McCall
  • Lewiston
  • Coeur d'Alene
  • Sandpoint
  • Twin Falls
  • Idaho Falls

Wildland fire

Night infrared for an Idaho incident

We fly infrared after the incident's aircraft are down for the night and put the heat on the GISS's screen before the morning briefing. In the 2026 season that meant initial attack beside Interstate 5 at milepost 57 and eleven nights on Fielder Mountain, where the heat sources on the map fell from 2,852 to 58 as the crews worked the fire out.

The operator is a red carded wildland firefighter, FFT1, GISS, and UASD, and has flown as an Oregon Department of Forestry Call When Needed resource since 2019. The Idaho Department of Lands, a timber protective association, a tribe, or a contractor can call on the same resource.

The first infrared sheet for the Interstate 5 fire: the heat perimeter and a fifty foot mopup buffer over the aerial base, beside the interstate.

Where the work is

Idaho, region by region

Coeur d'Alene, Sandpoint, and the Panhandle

Cedar, hemlock, larch, and fir in the wettest timber in the state, and towns built into it. Post harvest assessment after a sale, forest health tree by tree, and fuels data where the houses meet the forest. In the Silver Valley, bare earth from LiDAR would show the old workings under the trees.

Lewiston, Moscow, and the Clearwater

Timber on the Clearwater, canyon grassland on the breaks, and Palouse wheat on top. Stand data for state, industrial, and family forest, and farm planning maps where the wheat ground runs out to the canyon rim.

Boise, Nampa, and McCall

The Boise foothills, the growing edge of the Treasure Valley, and the timber north toward McCall. Site terrain and canopy for builders and engineers, and fuels and structure exposure data for wildfire plans where the subdivisions climb into the brush.

Twin Falls, Idaho Falls, and the Snake River Plain

Irrigated farm ground, canals, and sagebrush range across the plain. Drainage low points, flow paths, slope, and plan overlays for the farms, and range fuels data for the summers the grass and the sage carry fire.
